Two new hymns are now available for free download from gratemusic.com. The first is a modal hymn that eloquently teaches the Plan of Salvation, titled I am Naught without my Savior. The text by David Macfarlane was written in stages - before, during, and after his missionary service in Argentina. The hymn describes elements of the premortal life, the veil, recognizing the Spirit, and being reconciled with God through Jesus Christ, followed by stirring descriptions of the praise and good works that accompany true conversion. Nathan Howe set the text to a new melody in late 2005. The hymn incorporates some traditionally solemn elements of text and music with some more modern harmonies.
The second hymn, When Godly Sorrow Moves the Soul, is a heartfelt expression of the doctrine of repentance. David Macfarlane and Nathan Howe collaborated on both the text and the music, combining understandable lyrics and a memorable tune with beautiful four-part writing. “It was an inspired process,” said Howe, “We were both surprised at how naturally this hymn came. We know it does not belong to us personally, because neither of us can actually remember which ideas came from whom. The words and the music just came, and we were blessed enough to be there to write them down.”
Visit our Hymns page to hear samples and download these two new pieces today. They are free for noncommercial personal, church, and home use.
